Google Alerts - A No Cost Way To Monitor Your Brand

With all the sophisticated strategies you can implement to optimize your website for search engines, one of the simplest techniques and certainly the cheapest, (as in free), would be the Google Alert system.

Companies the size of Rogers or celebrities the likes of Brad Pitt, or YOU, can know instantly when your brand, your business name or your personal name has been searched. You can target the names of your products and see when they are searched on Google. This way, you have indications of how your advertising is working - especially if you give your ads an instruction such as:

Search "GILLY BILLY GOGO BOOTS" on Google for your discount coupon- 25% off for the first 100 searches!"  Connect your campaign to a FREE Google Coupon, and you have an all around FREE way to monitor your effectiveness.

How Do I Create a Google Alert?

Probably the most direct way to set a Google Alert is to click HERE.

The first item in the first column is ALERTS. Click there. Choose the terms you want and the way you want to be alerted for each item. You can have unlimited alerts, and you can have your settings set differently for each one if you like. For instance, I want to know right away if a negative search is made on my product, but I am only interested in daily alerts for my actual business name search. My competitors - I like to know those results once a week.

If you were running an add campaign as I mentioned above, you would want to have real time results - so assign the delivery that way from Google.

Remember you can use this alert for research also - to determine the level of interest in a product or service you might want to introduce in your area.  In that case, use not only the keyword that describes the product, but include your geographical designation.
